Cooperative Christian Ministry - Non-perishable food and supplies for the Monthly Food Challenge are collected the fourth Sunday of each month and are taken to CCM. Each month we will announce a different food or supply item to collect for the CCM pantry. Members are asked to donate items year-round for that organization that provides food for families in crisis. Boy Scouts - Rocky River has sponsored the Boy Scouts of America Troop 83 since 1947. In the Fall of 2002 over 50 Cub Scouts are active, and they and their leaders have refurbished the Scout Hut which sits in a patch of woods off Pharr Mill Road. A wonderful place for camping has been set up on the Rocky River Property back of the Scout Hut. Learn more at www.troop83nc.org Habitat for Humanity - Every year since 1996, Rocky River has joined other Presbyterian churches in Cabarrus County in building two Habitat for Humanity houses in Kannapolis, NC. Many members volunteered labor, food for volunteers and financial support. Many of the women of the congregation were involved in the all-women Habitat House in Concord in April, 1998
Blanket Sunday - One Sunday every year is designated "Blanket Sunday." A special offering is taken to provide blankets to be purchased and distributed by Church World Service where most needed around the world. The blankets go to refugees and victims of natural disasters. CVAN - The congregation supports the Cabarrus Victims Assistance Network (an organization for victims of domestic violence) with donations of money, clothing, furniture, and kitchen items throughout the year. Operation Christmas Child - Under the direction of the Witness and Service Committee, from October through December the congregation is involved in the Operation Christmas Child project of Samaritan's Purse. Since 1996, the members of the congregation have donated 971 gift-filled shoe boxes for needy children around the world. Volunteers, including the church youth, have volunteered many hours at the shoe box processing center in Charlotte. Angel Tree - One of the highlights of the year is our Angel Tree. Through the Presbyterian Women, names and Christmas wishes are secured from the Cabarrus County Department of Social Services. There is always much excitement and anticipation as the tree with paper angels bearing the names, ages and Christmas wishes of these children and elderly citizens is placed in the vestibule for our members to choose an angel and shop for that person. 5¢-A-Meal - Members are asked to set aside 5¢ for each meal they eat. The first Sunday of each month these pennies are brought to church and collected during worship. The money is combined with that of other congregations in the Charlotte Presbytery to provide food to various agencies in our region. Rocky River has participated in this program for several years.
